Falls (Not So Basic) Sweater Trends

We’ve dragged out our denial as long as we possibly could, but the time has come.  Summer is over. There. We said it.

Some of us embrace the colder weather.  Some of us don’t. Regardless of which side of this argument you lie on, there’s one thing I think we can all agree on:  we love ourselves a good sweater.

A staple in any wardrobe, we secretly can’t wait for the first day we get to bust out our favorite cable knit as we bid adieu to the bathing suits and maxi dresses, and consider asking the Starbucks barista if it’s possible to get an IV of Pumpkin Spice for the next 2 months.

We’re seeing some recurring trends this year, like the oversized sweater.  A sweater I can wear with jeans, leggings or even a skirt? Sign me up. Luckily the chunky sweater movement also seems to be here to stay - their ability to hold in a borderline uncomfortable amount of body heat has me convinced they were created by actual Eskimos.  Not to mention, there’s no better solution to a weekend of overindulging on apple fritters and hard cider than to hide it under one of these bad boys.

Patterns and bright colors are going to have to sit this year out; instead we’re seeing a lot more solid prints and muted/pastel tones in our future.  Last, but certainly not least, can we please give a warm welcome back to our old friend, the turtleneck sweater? From the loose and slouchy look, to skin tight and rolled, this is one of the many reasons that we really hope “the 70’s will never die” will always remain true.

So ladies, suit up, and embrace all that is basic about this season that we’re in...just make sure that whatever you choose has enough wiggle room to get that IV switched out when Peppermint season arrives.
